FAQ

Q.

What is the cost of repairing hail damaged cars?

A.

From a PDR point of view all hailed cars have their challenges due to the different metal compositions, so price varies. With this in mind other factors include quantity of Dents and size – So price can vary from a few hundred dollars up to several thousand dollars.

Q.

What if the panel has a scratch or damaged paintwork?

A.

In some cases scratches or damaged paintwork can be buffed out. But in the case that it can’t, then it depends on what outcome your looking for in the repair. Near enough is good enough or 100% repair!!! The dent most likely can be repaired 100%, but you still left with a scratch requiring a touch up, this impression will still be seen. So for 100% repair you would need a respray. The benefit of using a PDR tech are is at least we can save the cost of a new panel required or replacement of BOG or fillers in original panel.

And bear in mind, some prefer to see a touch up on an original panel rather than a respray, thinking it’s been involved in an accident.

Q.

Can you clarify hail damage?

A.

Hail is caused by rain drops freezing high in the atmosphere. During a storm hail can fall to the ground causing a great deal of destruction. Hail varies in size as small a few millimeters in to very large size of cricket balls or bigger.

Depending on the size that hits a car for eg. Will depend on damage caused to the car also the cars metal composition plays a part also. You could have a dozen different makes and models lined up next to each other in the same hail storm. Each car would be affected differently, some with minimal to no damage, while some would be a Right Off.

Q.

How long does it take to take out a dent?

A.

A dent repair can vary in time for a repair. For most standard dents we allow up to an hour or less. Larger dents can take 3 to 4 hours.

Q.

Can the metal stretch?

A.

Yes, metal can stretch. Depending on the type of dent caused and the metal composition any dent deep enough will cause stretching.

Q.

In the many photos contained in the gallery it shows a lot of dents that seem as though they should go to a panel beater due to the size or damage.?

A.

A good PDR Tech can do a lot for you in the repair. It just depends what you are after in the repair. Some large dents can be restored to the perfect condition, others to near perfect and some can only be restored via a panel beater shop requiring a new panel and respray or BOG and fillers and respary. The advantage of using a PDR Tech is that we can save at lest the cost of new panel or having BOG or fillers on your panel in extreme cases of dent repair.

Q.

What about line dents?

A.

Line dents can be removed, they are difficult to do and depending upon how sharp they are as to the out come of the repair and if in fact it has stretched the metal.

Q.

Are really big dents harder to repair than smaller ones?

A.

Not necessarily. Sometimes the smallest dent, size is a pin can be the hardest to remove. It just depends where the dent it positioned. E.g. Flat panel, behind a brace, in an enclosed are, double panel etc….

Q.

What if I had a dent the size of a basket ball or football, can this be done by a PDR Tech. ?

A.

Again pending on nature and positioning of dent. No dent is easy to remove. Some are easier than others, when you know what you’re doing. Every dent is different and treated accordingly.

Q.

What do you mean by size and nature of a dent?

A.

Well by size is obviously how big the dent is. A standard size would be around thumb size or 20mm, small would be up to 10mm, large would be over 20mm up to 50mm, extra large up to hand size or 150mm and over size dents would be size of a basketball or football.

Nature of the dent is how it sits in the panel, is it smooth & round, does it have any crease lines, sharp or high spots, paint cracking etc.
